Review: Papi, Bandra Is the Kind of Place That Knows Exactly What It’s Doing

Some restaurants ask for your attention. Papi earns it quietly.

Tucked away in Bandra, Papi doesn’t walk the familiar route of dim lights, loud music and overworked aesthetics. Instead, it lets the space breathe. Warm amber lighting spills across textured walls, natural stone, rich wood and brushed metal, while African-inspired textiles subtly weave their way through the interiors. During the day, sunlight pours in through the skylight, making it feel unexpectedly open. By night, the room transforms into exactly the kind of place where one drink somehow turns into four.

The energy is effortless. Nobody seems to be rushing through dinner. Tables are laughing a little louder, cocktails keep appearing, and somewhere between the second drink and the last bite, you realise you’ve completely lost track of time. That’s probably the point.

The first thing we ordered? The cocktails on tap. Yes, cocktails on tap.

The Paloma was everything you want from a summer drink its bright, citrus-forward and dangerously easy to keep sipping. The Aperol Spritz arrived perfectly balanced, with just enough bitterness to keep it interesting and enough fizz to convince you that another round is probably a good idea.

Then came the food.

The food at Papi is exactly what you’d want alongside great cocktails approachable, flavour-packed and made for sharing. We started with the Cheese Chilli Toast, which hit all the right notes with its crispy edges, molten cheese and just the right kick of spice. The Prawn Toast quickly became a table favourite, perfectly crisp with succulent prawns and a satisfying crunch in every bite. Even the Fries weren’t an afterthought; golden, crisp and seasoned just enough to keep you reaching back for more between conversations. The Pork Tacos brought together tender, juicy pork with fresh toppings that balanced the richness beautifully, while the Paella rounded off the meal on a comforting note. Rich, generously portioned and layered with flavour, it’s the kind of dish that naturally brings everyone to the centre of the table, making it the perfect ending to a meal that’s meant to be enjoyed slowly.

What we appreciated most about Papi is that nothing feels forced. It isn’t trying to reinvent dining or scream for attention through gimmicks. It simply gets the fundamentals right with a beautiful room, genuinely good cocktails, food you’ll happily order again, and an atmosphere that feels lived in rather than manufactured.

It’s the sort of place that works equally well for a first date, a long-overdue catch-up, or one of those “we’ll just grab a drink” plans that somehow end with dessert and closing time.

Would we go back?

Without thinking twice.

Because sometimes the best restaurants aren’t the ones trying to be the loudest in the room. They’re the ones that quietly become your new favourite.
