I walked into Punchline with a lot of expectations.
When you’ve got industry veterans like Jeet Rana and Chirag Pal behind the bar, Chef Amninder Sandhu leading the food programme, and a concept rooted in the forgotten Indian origins of punch, you’re naturally expecting something special. The good news? Punchline gets a lot right. The better news? It has the potential to get even better.
The first thing that struck me was the space. Bandra has no shortage of good-looking restaurants and bars, but Punchline manages to feel warm rather than manufactured. The orange-hued interiors, glowing lighting, open bar, and easy energy make it feel like the kind of place you can settle into for hours. It doesn’t try too hard to impress you, and that’s exactly what makes it charming.

Let’s talk drinks because that’s clearly where the team has invested a lot of thought. We started with the Three Way Martini, designed to be enjoyed in three sips, and it was a great way to kick off the evening. Strong, clean, and memorable. The Patchouli Whiskey Highball was probably my favourite drink of the night. Refreshing, interesting, and the kind of cocktail you’d happily order again. The Ghee-nius brought something completely different to the table and showcased the bar’s willingness to play with flavour without becoming gimmicky. In fact, I enjoyed the Three Way Martini enough to circle back to it before calling it a night.

The beverage programme feels intelligent without being intimidating. There is obvious technical skill behind the bar, but the drinks remain approachable, which is not always easy to achieve.
Food, however, felt a little less consistent. The Sweet Potato Crinkle Fries were comforting and enjoyable. The Crispy Prawns were dangerously addictive; I could have happily eaten those all evening. The chicken wings were another standout and delivered exactly what good bar food should. The Crispy Arbi and Tender Coconut Salad didn’t quite hit the spot for me, and the Naga Pork Belly felt like it needed a little more refinement. One thing I particularly wished for was a stronger vegetarian offering. I felt the menu could have explored that space a lot more.

What I loved most wasn’t necessarily a specific cocktail or dish. It was the vibe.
Punchline understands something many places forget: people return for how a place makes them feel. The room has energy, the music works, conversations flow, and the hospitality is genuinely warm. There is no stiffness, no forced formality, just a team that seems happy to be there and wants you to have a good time. That neighbourhood-bar feeling is probably Punchline’s biggest strength.
Would I go back? Yes.
Not because it was perfect, but because it was fun. And sometimes that’s what matters most. Great drinks, a lively atmosphere, warm hospitality, and a concept that feels fresh in Mumbai’s ever-growing bar scene. With a few tweaks to the food programme and more vegetarian options, Punchline could easily become a regular Bandra favourite.
