Review: Millo Nagpur is where vibes, tipples and great food come together

Just a few months in, and Millo Nagpur is already seeing packed covers, even on weekdays, which is a big thing if you are remotely aware of Nagpur’s F&B scene. After its Mumbai outlet, housed inside Kamala Mills, Millo brought its social space concept with global flavours to Nagpur, and Nagpurkars cannot get enough of it.

Co-founded by serial restaurateur Sujit Mehta, along with Savan Bhatewara and Sharmila Shah, Millo Nagpur is a riot: in its cuisine, its space and the effortless integration of modern cuisine and lip-smacking tipples.

Designed with utmost care and curation by Minnie Bhatt Design, the space unfurls in layers as you start exploring it. Modern aesthetics, quirky ceilings and wall art, pops of colours, carefully placed mirrors, and optimal use of biophilia all tie into a strong visual identity. Divided across two floors, accessible by both stairs and lift, the lighting caters to many moods. Plush seating, live music events, high-energy music, a cocktail-forward bar, and a multi-cuisine menu are all just what Nagpur needed.

The intent to be positioned as an elevated everyday space is evident when, even at 10 pm, the tables are packed with everyone in a good mood. Nagpur’s hospitality is evolving and shifting to cater to more evolved palates.

The experience-first dining with Mexican, Italian, and Asian fare, all vegetarian, has simple, shareable plates. There is even a strong focus on cheese on most dishes, because that’s what the city’s patrons demand (and enjoy). The flavours lean towards balanced umami, like in Korean Chilly Potato, Krokett, Honey Chilly Lotus Stem, Crispy Open Wantons, Peri Peri Rolls and Grilled Taquitos. What they do, quite like what you savour easily in a large metropolitan city like Mumbai, are great sushi, pizzas, and pastas. Their Fire Alarm Pizza, Naples Penoni Pasta, Sea Shell Romesco are quite enjoyable. Of course, the portion sizes are generous, and it warrants sharing. Their strength does lie in the Indian fare, which is really hard not to perfect. Their signature paneer and paneer makhani are creamy and pair well with their range of breads like Hariyali naan, Sdt & Olive Naan, and more.

In its drinks menu, Millo Napgur shines with curated cocktails. Picantes, palomas, martinis, and spritzes are regularly ordered, and the ingredients are the main characters. They do have a well-stocked bar and innovative non-alcoholic beverages perfect for all age groups.

While evenings usually see large groups and special occasion-led dining, the day vibe is of a friendly cafe that does good coffee, small plates, and more. At any given time, you can also spot who’s who of the world, like I spotted Minister Nitin Gadkari simply conducting business with his large group.
