Review: The Bold Edit at Yazu: Where Comfort Meets Culinary Adventure

Sunday evenings often come with their own charm—unhurried conversations, laughter at the table, and food that lingers in memory. That’s exactly what our evening turned out to be a delightful blend of inventive flavours and comforting classics.

We began with the Ebi Tempura Sushi, a plate that set the tone for the night. Crisp tempura enveloping succulent prawn, balanced with the freshness of sushi rice, it was indulgence without being heavy.

The Seafood Soup followed, arriving hot and fragrant. Brimming with the richness of the ocean, it was hearty yet delicate, offering warmth that felt almost therapeutic. It’s the kind of dish that works beautifully as both a starter and a palate comforter in between more adventurous bites.

The Prawn Dynamite lived up to its name a creamy, spicy explosion that was bold but not overpowering. Perfectly cooked prawns coated in a sauce that hit that sweet spot between indulgence and heat made it a dish you’d easily reorder. Alongside, the Chilli Wantons in Soya Chilli Oil were fiery and addictive, delivering a kick of spice wrapped in silky wanton skins. The oil, rich with umami, clung to each bite, making this a dish that carried the spirit of the Bold Edit playful, daring, and unapologetically flavourful. Among the standouts was also the Grilled Chicken with Nam Jim Sauce—smoky, tender chicken paired with a bright, zesty Thai-inspired sauce that cut through the richness of the other dishes. The tang and spice of the Nam Jim brought balance to the table, making it the perfect counterpoint to the creamy prawn dynamite and the fiery chilli wantons.

To pair with the food, we kept it classic with a Whiskey Sour smooth, tangy, and with just the right froth to refresh the palate between the spicy notes of the dishes. It complemented the meal without overshadowing the food, which is always a good sign of balance in a dining experience.

What made the evening memorable wasn’t just the food, but the way it came together—each dish offering something distinct, yet harmonising with the flow of the evening. There was comfort, there was surprise, and most importantly, there was joy. Yazu’s Bold Edit does justice to its name by pushing boundaries with flavour while keeping the experience accessible and sharable, especially when dining with family.

Sunday well spent, one where food, family, and flavour blended seamlessly. For those looking to explore a menu that’s inventive yet familiar, Yazu’s Bold Edit is exactly what it promises: bold, balanced, and beautifully memorable.
