Review: Roxanne’s Bar & All Day Diner: Retro Comfort and Food You Linger Over

Roxanne’s Bar & All Day Diner in Andheri East feels like the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard, and that’s exactly its charm. Conceptualised by Shashank Shetty of Peninsula Hospitality, the space blends retro-diner nostalgia with the pulse of a modern cocktail bar, creating an atmosphere that feels warm, familiar, and easy to return to.

The interiors lean into art-deco cues without being heavy-handed. There’s a lived-in comfort to the space, anchored by a central viewing bar where VDJ sets subtly guide the mood. The music is present but never intrusive, letting conversations flow while still giving the evenings a lively rhythm. It’s the kind of room that works across hours — relaxed in the daytime, buzzing as night falls.

The menu explores global, immigrant-inspired flavours, drawing from Modern American, Asian, and Continental influences, with a strong robata-grills. I started with The Burrata Affair, which struck a lovely balance between tangy notes and gentle sweetness and comforting yet fresh.

From the robata, Pork, Please delivered a pleasing umami sweetness, though it could benefit from being rested a little longer to avoid turning chewy. The Tokyo Veg Flat was an interesting, unconventional bar bite something different from the usual, and a fun option to share over drinks.

The clear standout of the meal was The Lazy Lobster Roll. Generously filled, indulgent without being heavy, and served in a soft, pillowy brioche that let the lobster shine. A touch of Cajun spice would elevate it even more, but even as it stands, it’s a solid thumbs-up.

The meal ended with Blush Hour Rigatoni the portion size was generous and satisfying, though the sauce lacked depth and could be more layered in flavour to truly leave a lasting impression.

On the drinks front, Roxanne’s keeps things approachable and well-balanced. The Passionfruit Picante is bold, spicy, and citrus-forward was a standout and easily one of the best I’ve had, especially after Shashank insisted it was a must-try.

Roxanne’s isn’t about spectacle. It’s about comfort, familiarity, and the kind of energy that makes you stay longer than planned — good food, easy drinks, and a space that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit.
