A new spa in Jim Corbett is taking the pressure off the safari getaway

Aahana Resort & Spa just unveiled the first spa by L’OCCITANE en Provence set in a wild jungle setting.

Safari fatigue is real. The 5am alarms, the bumpy jeep rides, the adrenaline of a near-sighting – it all adds up. But at Aahana Resort & Spa, a new kind of itinerary is emerging where the high of the jungle meets the relaxation of a spa reset. With the launch of a new spa by L’OCCITANE en Provence, Jim Corbett is now becoming a leisure getaway.

Wellness has always found a natural integration into the philosophy at Aahana. The morning birdcalls, sunsets over private pools and long walks under fiery red canopies have long inspired a sense of rejuvenation difficult to resist. But with the launch of a spa, the owners wanted to elevate this experience into something more focussed. “A spa pairs perfectly with the safari experience [that Corbett is known for]. Guests can start their mornings in the jungle, but after that, they just want to unwind and not step out of the resort, so a spa offers relaxation at ease,” says Ayu Tripathi.

Ayu is the director and daughter of Kamal Tripathi, the man behind the rewilding of this 13.5-acre estate. Set on what was once barren land and is now a thriving forest ecosystem, the resort features about 4,500 trees and flocks of birds that attract enthusiasts year-round. Before implementing the spa programme, L’OCCITANE leaned into this botanical abundance to understand the land and its lifestyle.

Born in Provence in 1976,  L’OCCITANE en Provence has grown into a global wellness brand on pillars of sustainability and community development. Its traceable formulations and nature-led product lines are met with centralised standards set for spa treatments across the world. “L’OCCITANE shares a compatibility with our own ethos, and that’s what sealed this deal for us. They’re sustainable and work a lot with local community and are the first eco-certified spa in Europe. Their focus is going easy on the environment,” shares Avni Tripathi.

The Therapies

Together, the two brands have created a Signature Aahana Body Massage that mingles multiple techniques such as Balinese, deep tissue and aromatherapy. The rest of the menu offers L’OCCITANE’s signature treatments including massages, scrubs, facials and couples packages across regeneration, balance, vitality and longevity. Treatments begin with a warm foot bath that revitalises extremities with an underwater massage. During my Aromachologie session, my therapist Deachen sprayed a pillow mist to instantly melt away my tension. One whiff, and I felt my muscles relax and my eyes close to a soft shut – a sensation that only got deeper as the massage progressed. I gave her no pointers or focus areas, but the way she released the tension in my back felt like she had known me for ages. Pressure smoothly increased where I tend to stress and knot, while more sensitive areas were treated with gentle rubs that let the oils do the healing.

The Design

While L’OCCITANE en Provence has other Indian outposts at destinations including Mussoorie and Mumbai, this is the first spa in a wildlife destination. The sanctuary has been designed not just to celebrate this, but to immerse in the natural beauty. “Forest is a very underutilised wellness asset. At the spa, we’ve not designed spaces to feel isolated, but open. You get to move between indoor and outdoor areas,” says Avni. My treatment room is preceded by a glass-ceilinged vestibule with a sunlit bathtub and shower area. Some rooms look out to foliage, while others are shaded by Ashok trees that bloom a bright red in summer. Even the brand’s globally recognised rituals like the Immortelle facials or the Sleep & Reset therapy feel softened by filtered forest light.

It’s a compelling counterpoint to the energy of Jim Corbett National Park, where most itineraries are built around hyped anticipation and the thrill of spotting wildlife. At Aahana, the safari becomes just one part of a broader, more balanced escape. You return from the park not to noise or rush, but to the stillness of a massage table, a shaded verandah or a quiet corner overlooking dense foliage.

The Wild Reset

This sense of balance extends across the entire experience. Days here unfold at your own pace, often guided by the natural world. A naturalist-led walk introduces you to the micro-ecosystems of medicinal plants, native trees and over 200 species of birds that call this space home. Birdwatching sessions, especially in the early hours, are unexpectedly meditative. Yoga sessions are held at various alfresco locations, and considering art and merriment a part of a holistic reset, the team also plans expert-led sessions in pottery, mixology and other areas every now and then. With the spa in place, the team plans to introduce multi-day wellness packages that combine the best of all this with curated spa treatments.

Much of the produce at Aahana also comes from in-house organic gardens and a nearby farm. A walk through the estate instantly confirms this for yourself as you spot ripe mangoes, blackberries falling from trees and pomegranates turning red in front of you.

By the time you leave, life seems slower and richer. Senses are heightened, the mind feels lighter, and now, your body shall feel a little more relaxed as well.
