There’s something about being asked, the moment you sit down, “Still or sparkling water?” that just sets the tone. At Otoki, that little question transported me straight back to my childhood in Spain & those rare, special meals where every detail felt thoughtful, almost magical. It’s proof that yes, restaurants in Mumbai can match the quiet luxury you’d expect anywhere in the world.
I went on a busy Sunday afternoon, and the place was buzzing & yet the service never skipped a beat. The team here is warm, attentive, and makes you feel like you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
We kicked things off with the lotus stem unfried but still perfectly crunchy, followed by crispy asparagus with just the right snap and the chicken karaage, with its golden crust and curry mayo, was a definite crowd-pleaser. But the fish sando? That’s the one I’m still thinking about soft bread, delicate fish, and layers of flavour that make you close your eyes for a second.
And then came the sake moment. Otoki isn’t just another Japanese spot & it’s the only place in Mumbai serving 32 different types of sake, all handpicked by India’s first certified sake brewer, Maia Laifungbam. If you love sake, this is your playground. From sparkling to dessert sake, every pour feels like a little celebration.

The chicken udon noodles, topped with a sunny-side-up egg, sealed the deal, comforting, hearty, and brimming with umami.
The interiors, designed by Essajees Atelier, are as much a part of the experience as the food, minimalist, warm, and elegant, with a stunning double-height ceiling adorned with metallic Ginkgo leaves that glow softly in the light.
