Let me start with a confession: I prefer walking into a new bar knowing as little about it as possible. The joy of discovery, of letting a space unfold without expectation, is one of my favourite indulgences. So when I was invited to try Mr Button, the newest cocktail bar in town by the team behind Hikki and Marieta, I deliberately stayed away from all social media posts about it. All I knew from the invitation was that it was inspired by London’s swish Savile Row.

The entrance, veiled behind velvet drapes, immediately hints at the kind of
evening that awaits: discreet, and designed with intent. Inside, the space opens up like a private club, soft, amber lighting, plush corners perfect for quiet conversation, and a bar tucked on one side, its bottles arranged with mindful precision—the top shelf rises and dips in a graceful low-high-low rhythm, while the one below mirrors it in reverse, high-low-high. Mr Button is an intimate 31-seater, and I like the vibe immediately!
At first glance, Mr Button could easily be mistaken for a cosy London haunt with panelled walls, brass accents, and shelves lined with old books and curiosities that could very well have belonged to the bar’s fictional muse, Henry J. Button, including a well-maintained piece of Singer sewing machine. As I learned later, Henry J. Button is imagined as a rakish tailor from 1893 Savile Row, a man of wit, charm, and an insatiable love for wanderlust. His legend threads through the entire concept: a tailor who travelled the world, and this is his residence where tailoring, travel and indulgence intertwine.
Behind the concept are Chaitanya Mathur and Sukriti Chopra of Ninecamp Ventures, in collaboration with Sahil Marwaha—they’re all pretty well known for creating great spaces and experiences in Delhi’s nightlife scene. “Mr Button was envisioned almost a decade ago, and has taken years of experience and a deeper understanding of hospitality to finally bring to life. Today, we believe the Indian customer is yearning for exclusivity and top-of-the-line experiences,” says Chaitanya Mathur. The final result is that it’s not opulent for the sake of it; it exudes quiet glamour without the glitter.
My first drink is the Audrey Hepburn. I’ll admit I was taken in by the name and was ordering it regardless of what it contained. It turns out to be a savoury martini with cherry tomato and basil, crisp, clean and surprisingly fresh. I notice it’s popular too, with the bartender making several more after mine. I’ve been leaning towards savoury cocktails lately, and this is one of the most balanced I’ve tried. I follow it with the Savile Row, a toffee and coffee indulgence that feels like an elegant nightcap. It’s smooth, slightly smoky and quietly addictive, served with white and dark chocolate buttons as a playful nod to the bar’s name. Night at the Ritz offers bright, citrusy tequila notes, while The Phantom of the Opera is rich and spirit forward, with an umami touch from porcini mushrooms and miso. Each drink brings its own character and adds to the charm of the evening.

While the cocktails steal the spotlight, the food menu holds its own. It’s compact yet globally inspired, echoing Mr Button’s wandering spirit. The Truffle Fries are golden, crisp and reliably comforting with their mushroom-garlic aioli. Moroccan-spiced lamb kibbeh brings a gentle heat, balanced beautifully by a cool, creamy labneh. ‘Britain’s Best Fish n Chips’ is a bold promise; served as crumb-fried fingers instead of traditional fillets, it’s not quite the classic but still crunchy and satisfying with the tartar sauce. The Pepperoni Pizette with hot honey is pleasant but forgettable in a lineup this strong. Dessert is a choice between tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding. I choose the latter, warm and rich with whisky cream and salted caramel gelato, a fitting end to the evening.
Even after I’ve had the food and drinks, I linger on, as Mr Button offers just the right amount of intimacy and a happy vibe. The playlist drifts from jazz to blues, the kind of music that makes you tap your foot without realising it. It’s a space where I’d like to unwind after a long day or catch up with some friends over some great drinks.
