A touch of Boho flair

When heavens open, nothing beats a long drive to soak in the fresh air and
sublime nature. Our drive to the newly launched Boho-themed KOA Café &
Bar in Vashi was just that. Taking notes from the liberating spirit of the
Bohemian lifestyle, KOA is heralded by restaurateur Priyanka Jain, with a lip-smacking global menu. The column-carved faces, wooden artefacts, tawny light and creative décor of the chic place transport you to a totally distinct realm. We seated ourselves against the backdrop of Hiawatha-like Red Indian’s portrait though every corner is insta-worthy.

The name KOA draws inspiration from the Hawaiian word “koa” which
signifies warrior, courage. It reflects the brand’s spirit of strength, bold identity while also aligning with its earthy, nature-forward design ethos and immersive dining experience.

We took our pick from options like pizza, pasta, noodles, dimsum, sushi, and Indian classics. Rains also stimulate appetite. The gastronomic wait was not long as our order appeared in quick succession. The soft and pillowy Home-made Potato Gnocchi stuffed with chevre cheese served in spinach sauce proved to be the perfect start. Chilli Paneer – crispy cottage cheese tossed with bell peppers, spring onion and spices, and Edamame Truffle dimsum from the Asian section was followed up with Charcoal mushroom truffle pizza in which savoury mushrooms were expertly cooked and flavoured with truffle oil.

To rev up the damp weather, the signature cocktail – Koa Calypso – a fruity
drink of white-rum, coconut milk and dark cherry was robust. If you like
something light with a hint of sweetness, opt for the summer berry cocktail
Island Delight. Nomadic Nectar – a fruity, tangy peachy drink with the
freshness of pineapple can uplift the spirit of non-drinkers.

To use a GenZ term, Asparagus Tempura Roll was bussin’ real with crispy fried asparagus tempura, avocado and crispy tenkatsu. Non-vegetarians can dig into some delectable creations like Chicken scaloppine (minced chicken and olives wrapped in a golden crust, served with tomato ragu), Thai Herb Chicken Bao,the yoghurt-based Bhatti ka murg or Tandoori jhinga.

To rizz up your palate try Pan fried noodles with vegetables tossed in Hunam sauce. From the Indian menu, creamy Paneer Makhanwala and Hyderabadi Sabz Biryani with its aromatic spices, veggies and delicate basmati rice was a winning plate. You can’t miss the appealing food presentation. Generous portion sizes can fill up three guests. We finished with the legendary Tres Leches with the added charm of pistachios and the coffee-bean shaped Death by chocolate – Belgian chocolate mousse with magic pops was truly magical.

KOA offers delicious crafted cocktails and flavoursome nosh in a refreshingly casual ambiance, just right to enjoy with family and friends.
