In a city where luxury is often measured in carats and couture, can you
find true indulgence in a sublime hair treatment? I did. The moment I
stepped into Florian Hurel’s salon in Bandra, I was transported. The
space felt like a modern grotto, with its cave-like design, softly lit corners
and gracefully curved edges. The tall ceiling added to the sense of
tranquillity. Nothing, however, could have prepared me for the pampering
that followed.

For years, my hair and I have had a strained relationship. It was a
constant battle against frizz, damage and dullness. Every new treatment
I tried felt like a fleeting fix, and I had come to believe that my hair was
simply destined to be difficult. So, when I was offered the Korean Scalp
treatment, I walked in with skepticism.
AI to the rescue
The treatment started with hair consultation. Florian Hurel uses an
advanced AI system with high-resolution imaging to perform a detailed
scan of the scalp and identify concerns such as oiliness, dryness,
dandruff, or hair fall that are often invisible to the naked eye. The scan
showed an oily scalp, clogged follicles, redness and thinning around the
crown area. But what truly set this experience apart was the therapist’s
approach to the diagnosis. Unlike the typical salon consultation where
every flaw is a new sales pitch, there was no judgment or criticism.
Instead of dwelling on the flaws, my therapist focused on my hair’s
potential to behave better. She walked me through a detailed care
routine specifically for my hair type.
The Art of Cleansing
The ritual began in a dimply lit room with soft music and a bed. This was
my clue to surrender completely. The first wash was a revelation. It
wasn’t a regular scrub, but a precise cleansing that felt like a caress. As
she massaged my scalp, the water changed intensity from a soft, warm

sprinkle at first, to a gentle fall, and finally a cascade that felt like
standing under a waterfall. Each wash felt intentionally different and
designed to not just cleanse my scalp but also soothe my mind.
Products with natural extracts like ginseng, green tea and camellia oil
were applied to revitalise the hair.
The sensation was incredible. For almost an hour the world outside the
room disappeared, and all that existed was the sensation of my
therapist’s hands working her magic. A firm, warm pressure on my back
brought me back to reality as she began a brief but intense back
massage. It was an unexpected moment of bliss in a hair treatment.
Nonetheless it worked out the knots and tension from a long day.

The session concluded with a hair growth tonic which I was advised to
keep on my scalp for at least the next two days. Finally when my
therapist gently dried and styled my hair, I was amazed. The frizz was
gone, replaced by a shine and softness I hadn’t seen in years. A quick
scan revealed a fresher scalp with no redness. But it wasn’t just my hair
that felt good; it was a general feeling of well being. This Korean hair
ritual at Florian Hurel was truly a sanctuary for both my senses and my
strands.
