Review: Bodega 39 — A Vintage-Led Cocktail Bar That Knows Its Mood

Bodega 39 has already settled comfortably into Goregaon’s nightlife rhythm, and it’s clear this is a space built for evenings that stretch longer than planned. Founded by Divya Kadam, the bar brings a sense of old-world charm and confident polish to a neighbourhood that’s long deserved a destination of its own.

The interiors instantly set the tone. High ceilings, layered textures, warm wood, stained-glass detailing and soft, amber lighting create a space that feels vintage, almost transportive like stepping into a European dining room from another era. As the evening progresses, the music takes centre stage. It’s loud, energetic, and unapologetic, shifting the room’s personality from relaxed to animated. This is not a quiet, conversational bar and it’s designed for nights where the soundtrack matters as much as what’s on the table.

Cocktails are the backbone here, led by Louness Ducus, and the bar programme reflects serious intent. Everything is crafted in-house, with no pre-made mixers or added sugars. Techniques like clarification, fat-washing, batching and sous-vide infusions are used thoughtfully, resulting in drinks that feel layered yet clean. The cocktails are balanced, visually refined, and built to hold their own even as the music rises and the room fills.

The food menu complements the bar without competing for attention. Consultant chef Gracian D’Souza keeps things ingredient-forward and restrained, letting flavours do the work. The Mutton Seekh Nanwich is traditional mutton seekh wrapped in naan and served with crisp sweet potato wafers is indulgent yet familiar. The Gambas Aglio Olio, sautéed prawns in garlic-infused olive oil with homemade bread, delivers simplicity done right. The Roasted Bell Pepper and Sun-Dried Tomato Baby Burrata Pizza is light, comforting, and easy to share, while the Pan-Fried Salmon with cauliflower purée, Swiss chard and lemon-garlic caper butter sauce stands out for its finesse and balance.

Service adds another layer to the experience. The hospitality felt warm and attentive throughout the evening, with Mr Sudeep ensuring everything stayed seamless, and the chef’s personal attention adding a thoughtful, welcoming touch.

Bodega 39 is not trying to be understated and that’s exactly the point. With its vintage-inspired interiors, high-energy music, carefully crafted cocktails and confident food offering, it knows the kind of night it wants to deliver. It’s a place for animated conversations, strong drinks, and evenings where the mood builds as the night goes on.
