The Serpent Arrives in India: Bvlgari Unveils Serpenti Infinito at NMACC This October

Following acclaimed editions in Shanghai and Seoul, Bvlgari is set to bring its globally celebrated Serpenti Infinito Exhibition to India. Opening on October 1, 2025, at The Art House, Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), Mumbai, the showcase marks the third chapter in Bvlgari’s worldwide celebration of the Year of the Snake. Running until October 17, the exhibition promises an immersive exploration of Serpenti—the Maison’s most iconic emblem—through the lenses of art, mythology, craft, and design.

Since its inception in 1948, Serpenti has symbolised transformation, eternity, and reinvention. With its sinuous lines and hypnotic form, it has become a universal emblem transcending borders, finding resonance in diverse cultures across time. In ancient Greece, the serpent stood for healing and wisdom; in Egypt, it was a symbol of divine protection and rebirth. For Bvlgari, Serpenti embodies a spirit of metamorphosis that seamlessly mirrors the Maison’s artistry—timeless yet ever-evolving.

In India, the serpent—or Nāga—holds profound cultural and spiritual meaning. Revered in mythology as a guardian of treasures and a figure of immense cosmic power, it is both feared and worshipped. From the coils of Sheshanaga on which Lord Vishnu rests to the divine serpent Vasuki, central to the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), serpents are deeply embedded in India’s sacred narratives. They represent infinity, fertility, protection, and the cyclical rhythm of life itself. By situating the Serpenti within this context, Bvlgari offers not only a luxury exhibition but also a dialogue between Roman heritage and India’s timeless symbology.

For its Indian edition, the exhibition has been curated by Nature Morte, one of the country’s leading contemporary art galleries, founded by Peter Nagy and Aparajita Jain, and envisioned by Artistic Director Sean Anderson. The presentation unfolds as a three-part narrative, moving from the mythological and historic to the contemporary and transformative. Visitors will encounter interpretations of the serpent across diverse artistic mediums—painting, sculpture, installations, and digital works—alongside Bvlgari’s own creations, from Serpenti High Jewellery to heritage timepieces and archival masterworks.

At its core, Serpenti Infinito is a cultural conversation. By drawing upon the serpent’s presence in both Roman and Indian traditions, the exhibition underscores its universality while celebrating its adaptability. “India has always been a profound source of inspiration for Bvlgari, thanks to its rich history, exceptional craftsmanship, and deep cultural heritage,” says Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari. “The decision to bring Serpenti Infinito to Mumbai is more than just a launch—it’s a meaningful celebration of the dialogue between our timeless Roman roots and India’s vibrant artistic traditions. This journey not only reinforces Serpenti as an emblematic symbol of Bvlgari’s identity but also elevates it as a universal icon of continuous reinvention, creativity, and enduring elegance.”

This cross-cultural resonance lies at the heart of the exhibition’s design. “Organising Serpenti Infinito in India has been an extraordinary opportunity to bring together diverse artistic voices in dialogue with one of the most enduring symbols in global design history,” adds Aparajita Jain, Co-Director of Nature Morte. “The exhibition presents a rich tapestry of perspectives: traditional and contemporary, Indian and international, that together honour the spirit of Bvlgari’s Serpenti Collection while reimagining it for a new context.”
